Bhopal, March 30 (NationPress) In a heart-wrenching incident, a 'Divyang' (differently-abled individual) was tragically charred to death in the town of Itarsi, located in the Narmadapuram district (previously known as Hoshangabad) in Madhya Pradesh on Sunday.

Rajput, who had lost both of his legs, was unable to escape when a fire broke out in his residence, leading to him being trapped and ultimately perishing in the flames.

Itarsi serves as a significant railway junction in Madhya Pradesh.

According to Gaurav Singh Bundela, the in-charge of Itarsi police station, the fire erupted between 3:30 and 4:00 a.m. in the Nehruganj area.

Initial investigations suggest that a short circuit might have ignited the flames in Rajput's kuchcha house.

Within moments, the fire expanded rapidly to two adjacent homes in the area. While the residents of nearby houses, including his family, managed to escape, Rajput could not be rescued in time as the fire swiftly engulfed the room where he was sleeping.

Upon receiving the distress call, emergency teams acted swiftly, dispatching around 20 fire brigade vehicles from Itarsi, Hoshangabad, and the Ordnance Factory to the scene to subdue the blaze, as reported by the police officer.

Despite their diligent efforts, it took over three hours to fully control the fire.

The swift spread of flames inflicted considerable damage to surrounding properties, including the homes of advocate Ravi Savadkar and Ajay Gangrade, reducing all possessions to ashes and resulting in significant material loss.

Fortunately, no other lives were lost in the incident, and no injuries were reported, as all occupants managed to escape in time.

According to Rajput's family, he was asleep at the time. He called out for help, but before his wife and two daughters could reach him, the fire consumed his room.

The victim's body has been sent for a post-mortem examination, and a further investigation has commenced to determine the precise cause of the fire, as stated by the police officer.

This marks the second deadly fire incident in Madhya Pradesh in recent times, following a prior occurrence in Singrauli where a bus cleaner lost his life when a fire, reportedly ignited by a mosquito repellent coil, engulfed a nearby bus.
