Hyderabad, Aug 13 (NationPress) Actress Manchu Lakshmi Prasanna made an appearance at the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Wednesday concerning a case linked to the promotion of illegal betting applications.

The actress and producer arrived at the ED's regional office located in Basheerbagh at around 10:30 a.m.

ED officials are expected to interrogate her regarding her endorsement of these betting applications, the contracts she entered into, and the compensation she received. The agency may record her statements and collect information related to financial transactions.

Manchu Lakshmi is the fourth actor to be summoned by the ED in this investigation.

Previously, Prakash Raj, Vijay Deverakonda, and Rana Daggubati had already appeared before the agency, each being questioned for four to five hours.

On Monday, Rana Daggubati underwent almost four hours of questioning.

Last month, the ED summoned these actors, including Manchu Lakshmi, for their involvement in the case.

Prakash Raj attended the hearing on July 30, while Vijay Deverakonda was questioned on August 6.

The four actors are among 29 celebrities who were booked by the ED on July 10 for allegedly endorsing illegal betting apps.

The central agency has filed an ECIR against these 29 actors, influencers, and YouTubers for purportedly promoting illegal betting platforms, in breach of the Public Gambling Act, 1867.

This investigation, conducted under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act, stems from five FIRs lodged in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh.

Earlier in March, Vijay Deverakonda, Rana Daggubati, Prakash Raj, and others were charged by Cyberabad police for allegedly endorsing these betting applications.

Both Rana Daggubati and Vijay Deverakonda insisted that they only promoted legally sanctioned online skill-based games.

Following his questioning on August 6, Vijay Deverakonda asserted that he was called in to discuss a gaming app he had endorsed.

The actor emphasized that he promoted a gaming app that is legal, government-recognized, and licensed as a business.

He provided comprehensive details, including account information, company affiliations, and financial transactions.

During his July 30 hearing, Prakash Raj informed the ED officials that he had not received any payment for a prior endorsement.

The officials collected information regarding an advertisement he did for a betting app in 2016.

Prakash Raj mentioned he told the ED that he could not accept any payments due to his ethical beliefs.

He reiterated that he only completed one advertisement for a gaming app but later realized that it was a mistake.
