Imphal, Jan 23 (NationPress) The Chief Minister of Manipur, N. Biren Singh, announced on Thursday that the state is currently facing challenges with illegal infiltration from Myanmar on its eastern borders. An alert is also being maintained in the western and southern regions of the state to prevent illegal entries from neighboring countries.
The Chief Minister highlighted that Manipur shares a 204 km border with Assam, which along with Tripura, is facing similar infiltration issues from Bangladesh.
“If Assam fails to identify the illegal infiltrators from Bangladesh, these migrants may also enter Manipur,” Biren Singh informed the press.
Assam and Tripura each have borders of 263 km and 856 km with Bangladesh, respectively. While much of the international borders are fenced, there are still some areas that remain open.
The Chief Minister emphasized that, in addition to the security forces, local communities should be vigilant regarding illegal border crossings.
He issued a stern warning to those disseminating false information and rumors, stating that strict legal action will be taken against individuals promoting hate speech or spreading false narratives online.
“No one has the right to disrupt the peace of society or families by sharing hate speech or fictitious information on social media,” Biren Singh asserted, adding that the government will not tolerate irresponsible remarks online.
The Chief Minister also mentioned that, with improved law and order, the state government is reviving the “Go to Hills” initiative, which aims to bring governance closer to the people.
He noted that a cabinet meeting was recently convened in the tribal district of Tamenglong, where several projects valued at approximately Rs 300 crore were announced under the guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
“Tamenglong, once the most underdeveloped district, is now one of the most advanced in the nation,” the Chief Minister stated.
Biren Singh, who oversees the Home portfolio, mentioned that as part of the government’s ongoing “war against drugs,” the Manipur Police in collaboration with paramilitary forces regularly eradicate illegal poppy cultivation, predominantly in hilly areas.
