In his address to the media, CM Saha, who is also responsible for the Home portfolio, confirmed that the Border Security Force (BSF) stationed along the India-Bangladesh border, along with the Tripura Police and other security agencies, are maintaining heightened surveillance against illegal crossings.
This statement was made during a function at Pragna Bhavan, where he distributed offer letters to newly appointed Food Inspectors. He noted that senior officials from the BSF, police, and other security departments are closely observing the border dynamics.
CM Saha's remarks followed a recent directive from the Union Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), which mandated all states and union territories to utilize their statutory powers within 30 days to verify the identities of suspected illegal immigrants claiming Indian citizenship, and to initiate deportation if they are deemed ineligible.
“We are unequivocal on this matter. No Bangladeshi or Rohingya will be permitted to enter Tripura or any part of Indian territory. Should anyone manage to cross the border, they will be sent back as per legal protocols,” he stated during the press interaction.
With an extensive 856 km border with Bangladesh, Tripura is bordered on three sides by the neighboring nation, rendering the northeastern state particularly susceptible to cross-border migration issues.
The Chief Minister previously mentioned that in a meeting with senior security officials, he urged them to foster close collaboration to manage border-related challenges and other developments, particularly in light of the ongoing tensions between India and Pakistan.
“We are aligning our efforts with the directives of the Central government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Leaders such as Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar are actively involved in addressing the current circumstances,” CM Saha remarked.
He assured the public that the situation in Tripura is entirely stable and there is no reason for alarm.
A BSF official revealed that border patrol units have intensified their vigilance and operational presence along the International Border in response to the violence and turmoil in the neighboring country since last year.
“Our vigilance has been further bolstered after the Pahalgam terror attack and considering the ongoing tensions between India and Pakistan,” the official noted, adding that high-ranking BSF personnel frequently inspect the border areas to monitor the situation continuously.
