Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Manipur Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh on Wednesday, 14 October called for collective efforts to restore peace and strengthen unity among the state's 36 communities, stressing that mutual understanding and a shared commitment to working together were essential for Manipur's progress. He was speaking at the Seva Sankalp Abhiyan programme held at Chumthang Shanapung under the Naoriya Pakhanglakpa Assembly constituency in Imphal West district.
Key Remarks at the Event
Khemchand Singh observed that despite professing love for Manipur, some people remained unwilling to venture beyond the valley region and embrace all communities. He underlined that the state needed leaders capable of bridging divides and fostering genuine unity. 'Manipur is home to 36 communities, and each of them must be brought together,' he said, according to reports from the event.
The Chief Minister cited Singapore as a model, saying there were valuable lessons to be drawn from countries that had achieved social cohesion and rapid development — but that the will to learn, work hard, and drive positive change had to come from within society itself.
Economic Progress and Viksit Bharat 2047
Speaking on India's broader economic trajectory, Khemchand Singh stated that the country had been on an accelerating growth path since Prime Minister Narendra Modi assumed office, noting that India had entered the top four economies globally in terms of economic growth. He linked this national momentum to the vision of Viksit Bharat 2047, stressing that the people of Manipur must contribute meaningfully to achieving the goal of a developed India.
On local infrastructure, he highlighted that roads in the Naoriya Pakhanglakpa constituency were now being built using the rigid pavement system, though he acknowledged that such construction required considerable time.
About the Seva Sankalp Abhiyan
The month-long Seva Sankalp Abhiyan is being organised to mark 25 years of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's public service and leadership. As part of Wednesday's programme, outreach camps were set up by 42 government departments, enabling citizens to access services, obtain information, and avail themselves of various welfare schemes directly.
Attendance and Representation
The event was attended by MLAs Sagolshem Kebi Devi and Tongbram Robindro Singh, Chairperson of the Imphal West Zilla Parishad R.K. Taruni Devi, officials from multiple government departments, local representatives, and members of the public.
With Manipur's ethnic tensions remaining a sensitive fault line, the Chief Minister's appeal for inclusive leadership and collective peace efforts signals an ongoing push by the state government to rebuild social trust across community lines.
