Manipur: The 12 Tribals Lost in CRPF Encounter and Other Incidents to Be Buried on December 5

Imphal, Nov 30 (NationPress) The 12 individuals who tragically lost their lives during the confrontation with the CRPF in the Jiribam district of Manipur on November 11, along with an additional two, will be honored and laid to rest on December 5 in Churachandpur, as announced by leaders of the Indigenous Tribal Leaders' Forum (ITLF) on Saturday.
Authorities from the Manipur Police previously asserted that all 10 ‘militants’ were killed in defensive actions by the CRPF following an attack on the CRPF camp and the nearby police station located in Jakuradhor village within the Borobekra sub-division of Jiribam district.
During the exchange, two CRPF personnel sustained injuries.
Contrarily, organizations such as the ITLF, Kuki-Zo Council, and Hmar Students’ Association (HSA) contend that the 10 deceased members of the ‘Hmar Village Volunteers’ were actively involved in safeguarding the local inhabitants.
ITLF representatives informed the press about an urgent meeting held on Saturday, where it was resolved that the ‘10 martyrs,’ who perished in Jiribam on November 11 and in other incidents, will be laid to rest with utmost honor and respect on December 5 in Churachandpur.
According to the ITLF, postmortem findings were reviewed collectively by a forensic and legal specialist.
“The experts have deemed the postmortem reports to be satisfactory. The ITLF legal team and HSA will pursue further legal actions. A memorial event on December 5 will occur at Peace Ground in Tibuong,” stated the tribal organization.
On the day of the burial, a large silent procession will be conducted.
“Student organizations are encouraged to prepare placards and banners for the rally. A complete shutdown is planned for December 5 to honor our martyrs,” the ITLF announced.
In a show of solidarity, thousands participated in a 'coffin rally' on November 19 in Churachandpur, Manipur, supporting the 10 Kuki-Zo-Hmar tribal 'Village Volunteers.'
This event, organized by various tribal groups, saw numerous individuals dressed in black, symbolically carrying 10 dummy coffins to pay tribute to the slain ‘Village Volunteers.’
After the postmortem examinations for all 10 bodies, along with two additional ones, were completed at Assam’s Silchar Medical College and Hospital, the remains were airlifted on November 16 to Churachandpur, predominantly inhabited by Kuki-Zo-Hmar communities.
