Imphal, Dec 20 (NationPress) At least three young boys sustained injuries when an unexploded bomb detonated in the Tengnoupal district of Manipur on Saturday, as reported by officials.
A police representative from Imphal stated that the incident occurred in the Molnoi Kuki tribal village near Pallel while the minors were reportedly playing with an antiquated mortar shell.
The victims have been recognized as Henugao Baite (10), Jamgunsei Baite (8), and Ngamguang Haokip (8). According to police information from the Tengnoupal district, which borders Myanmar, the injured children were swiftly taken to the Assam Rifles’ 26 Battalion hospital for urgent medical care.
One of the children is reported to be in critical condition. Authorities suspect that the unexploded object was a 2-inch mortar shell, likely fired during previous Kuki-Meitei confrontations in the region.
In a separate development, a hand grenade was discovered near the entrance of Liberal College at Luwangshangbam under the Heingang Police Station in Imphal East on the same day.
A team from the Manipur Police Bomb Disposal Squad managed to retrieve the explosive and successfully carried out a controlled explosion at Marjing Mamang Chingol.
No group has yet claimed responsibility for the grenade, and the reason behind its placement remains uncertain.

Another suspect, Yumkhaibam Sonia (23), was discovered with 37 vials of heroin weighing around 60 grams and highly addictive methamphetamine tablets (Yaba) totaling approximately 43 grams.
