Manoj Shrivastava Takes Charge as New State Election Commissioner of Madhya Pradesh

Bhopal, Jan 1 (NationPress) Manoj Kumar Shrivastava, a retired officer from the Indian Administrative Service (IAS), has been designated as the Madhya Pradesh State Election Commissioner (SEC).
Shrivastava, who belongs to the 1987 IAS batch, will take over from the previous Madhya Pradesh SEC, Basant Pratap Singh, whose term expired on December 31.
The General Administration Department (GAD) of the Madhya Pradesh government released a notification on Tuesday, confirming that Shrivastava has been appointed as the State Election Commissioner for a tenure of six years or until he reaches the age of 66.
He retired in April 2021 from his role as Additional Chief Secretary in the Panchayati Raj and Rural Development Department of Madhya Pradesh.
During his career, he has held multiple roles within various departments across Madhya Pradesh.
His previous positions include serving as the District Collector of Indore and Commissioner of the Department of Public Relations for the state government.
Shrivastava has received notable accolades, including the Swami Vivekanand Award and the International Aviation Award from the International Council for Cultural Relations and the Nehru Centre, located in South Banks, London.
Basant Pratap Singh, an IAS officer from the 1984 batch, was appointed as State Election Commissioner on December 31, 2018.
His retirement was initially scheduled for June 30 of this year, but his term was prolonged by six months.
Singh's tenure was extended as the state government had not yet appointed a successor, with assurances that this extension would not surpass six months.
Prior to his role as State Election Commissioner, Singh served as Chief Secretary of Madhya Pradesh from November 1, 2016, to December 2018, following in the footsteps of former Chief Secretary Anthony de Sa.
