New Delhi, Oct 6 (NationPress) In a significant achievement for law enforcement agencies combating the Naxalite insurgency in South Bastar Dantewada, three individuals suspected of being Maoists were apprehended, and a functional pressure IED was seized during a collaborative operation executed by the Malewahi Police Station and CRPF personnel on Monday.
The operation forms part of a sustained anti-Naxalite initiative spearheaded by Superintendent of Police Gaurav Rai, alongside Additional SPs Udit Pushkar and RK Barman. This campaign has ramped up patrols and search operations throughout the district, leading to a series of arrests and recoveries.
Acting on intelligence from a tip-off regarding suspicious behavior near the Satdhar bridge, a combined team from Malewahi Police Station and the CRPF’s Malewahi Camp quickly responded to the location. Upon arrival, three individuals attempted to conceal themselves but were swiftly surrounded and detained.
The suspects were identified as Santu Mandavi (36), Maniram alias Manish (24), and Sukhman Mandavi (24), all hailing from Kahchenar village, as reported by a police official.
During questioning, the trio admitted to being active participants in the outlawed CPI(M) Maoist organization and confessed to their involvement in a recent IED explosion near the Satdhar bridge, which injured two CRPF personnel. They also disclosed the location of a functional pressure IED in the vicinity.
Following their revelations, the joint team proceeded to the site and confiscated a 1 kg pressure IED, which was safely neutralized on the spot, according to officials. In addition to the explosive device, other materials utilized in the blast were also recovered.
A Naxalite identification card was discovered during the operation, further corroborating their affiliation. The suspects are currently in custody, with formal arrest processes underway, and they will be presented in court for further legal proceedings.
