Shajapur/Bhopal, March 14 (NationPress) Nearly 200 couples participated in a diverse mass wedding ceremony held under the 'Mukhyamantri Kanya Vivah/Nikah Yojana' in Shujalpur, Madhya Pradesh, on Saturday, as reported by government officials.
Official sources indicated that out of these, 162 couples were from the Hindu faith, while 38 couples belonged to the Muslim community. The marriages were conducted according to the traditional customs of each respective religion.
Chief Minister Mohan Yadav attended the event virtually from his home in Bhopal, offering his heartfelt congratulations to the newlyweds. He emphasized the government's commitment to ensuring the dignity, empowerment, and social security of daughters throughout the state.
“Mass marriage embodies social unity. I am thrilled that today, in Shujalpur, we successfully celebrated the marriages of 162 daughters and the nikah of 38 daughters,” the Chief Minister remarked.
In-person attendance included Madhya Pradesh Higher Education Minister Inder Singh Parmar, a seasoned Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader representing the Shujalpur Assembly constituency, who was accompanied by local party members and presented gifts to the newlyweds.
As part of the Mukhyamantri Kanya Vivah/Nikah Yojana, the state government offers financial support of Rs 49,000 directly to the bank accounts of brides from economically disadvantaged backgrounds to assist with their weddings.
The ceremony also highlighted the marriage of the son of Sita Devi Ramchandra Patodiya, the Shujalpur Janpad Panchayat President.
Several prominent figures were in attendance, including District Panchayat President Hemraj Singh Sisodia, State BJP Secretary Babita Parmar, BJP district general secretary Vijay Bes, and District Collector Riju Bafna.
Prior to the wedding ceremony, a collective procession for the grooms stretched approximately 1.5 km from the Police station intersection to the venue. Minister Parmar, along with BJP leaders and officials, joined the procession, engaging in traditional dancing while wearing turbans.
Security measures were overseen by Sub-Divisional Magistrate Rajkumar Haldar and Sub-Divisional Police Officer Nimish Deshmukh, with police station heads S.K. Yadav and Praveen Pathak and their teams deployed for safety.
