MP's Kanya Vivah Scheme: 1.7 lakh marriages, ₹1,000 crore disbursed since 2023

More than 1.70 lakh marriages have been solemnised under the Chief Minister Kanya Vivah/Nikah Scheme in Madhya Pradesh between December 2023 and April 2026, with financial assistance of nearly ₹1,000 crore disbursed so far, Chief Minister Mohan Yadav announced on Thursday, 7 May. The disclosure came as Yadav addressed a mass marriage ceremony virtually from his official residence in Bhopal.

Scale and Financial Impact

The scheme, which provides direct benefit transfers to eligible families for the marriage of girls, has disbursed close to ₹1,000 crore across the roughly 29-month period since its relaunch in December 2023. Chief Minister Yadav said the initiative has significantly eased the financial burden on households, particularly those from economically weaker sections. The direct benefit transfer mechanism is designed to ensure transparency and minimise leakages.

What the Chief Minister Said

Addressing the ceremony virtually, Yadav underscored the social rationale behind mass weddings.
