New Delhi, Sep 7 (NationPress) The Prime Minister of Mauritius, Navinchandra Ramgoolam, is scheduled to visit the sacred city of Varanasi in Uttar Pradesh from September 10 to 12, according to a senior official from the district administration.
On September 11, he will engage in discussions with Prime Minister Narendra Modi during a bilateral meeting in New Delhi.
“Ramgoolam is also expected to participate in the Ganga Aarti on September 11. On September 12, he will pay his respects at Baba Kashi Vishwanath and visit Ayodhya,” stated Varanasi Divisional Commissioner S. Rajalingam on Saturday.
“PM Modi will arrive in Varanasi on September 11. Following his meeting with the Mauritian Prime Minister, he will return to Delhi,” he added.
According to a press release from the Union Ministry of External Affairs, “Prime Minister of Mauritius, Navinchandra Ramgoolam, will embark on a state visit to India from September 9 to September 16. This marks Ramgoolam's first official bilateral visit to India during his current term.”
Ramgoolam had previously visited India in May 2014.
During his trip, the Mauritian Prime Minister will also travel to Mumbai and Tirupati.
While in Mumbai, he will participate in a business event.
In a media briefing on September 5, MEA Spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal acknowledged Ramgoolam's past visit to India in 2014 to witness Prime Minister Modi's swearing-in ceremony.
Last month, Ramgoolam conveyed his greetings to PM Modi and the people of India on the occasion of Independence Day.
In his message, he said, “Mauritius celebrates the ideals of freedom, democracy, and unity that India has steadfastly upheld since 1947. The relationship between our two nations is deeply rooted in history and culture.”

PM Modi expressed gratitude to his Mauritian counterpart, regarding Mauritius as India's “strategic and trusted partner” in their joint aspirations for progress, prosperity, and a promising future for both nations.
“I am deeply grateful for your kind wishes, Prime Minister Dr. Navin Ramgoolam, on our Independence Day. Mauritius will always be a strategic and trusted ally in our shared pursuit of growth, prosperity, and a bright future for our peoples,” PM Modi tweeted.
Earlier this year, PM Modi visited Mauritius for two days at Ramgoolam's invitation to celebrate the 57th National Day of Mauritius. During this visit, he held bilateral discussions with Ramgoolam and Mauritius President Dharam Gokhool.
India maintains “close and enduring relations” with Mauritius, founded on shared history, demography, and culture, as stated by the Indian High Commission in Mauritius. Mauritius was among the first countries with which independent India established diplomatic ties in 1948, even prior to Mauritius's independence. This relationship has been characterized by a high level of trust and mutual understanding at the leadership level, along with continuous high-level political engagement.
