Is Mauritius PM Navinchandra Ramgoolam Visiting India Next Week?

New Delhi, Sep 5 (NationPress) The Prime Minister of Mauritius, Navinchandra Ramgoolam, is set to embark on a State Visit to India from September 9-16, as announced by the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) on Friday. This marks Ramgoolam's inaugural overseas bilateral trip to India during his current term.

During a weekly media briefing in New Delhi, MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal recounted Ramgoolam's previous visit to India in 2014 when he attended the swearing-in ceremony of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

"The Prime Minister of Mauritius, His Excellency Dr. Navinchandra Ramgoolam, will undertake a State visit to India from September 9 to 16, 2025. This visit will be his first overseas bilateral engagement with India in his present term. You may recall Prime Minister Ramgoolam's previous visit to India in 2014, during which he attended the swearing-in ceremony of the Prime Minister and the Council of Ministers. In addition to Delhi, Dr. Ramgoolam will visit Mumbai, Varanasi, Ayodhya, and Tirupati. He is scheduled to participate in a business event in Mumbai," he disclosed.

Last month, Ramgoolam expressed his greetings to PM Modi and the people of India on their Independence Day. In his message, he remarked that Mauritius celebrates the values of freedom, democracy, and unity that India has valiantly defended since 1947. He emphasized the historical and cultural bond shared between the two nations.

"Prime Minister Narendra Modi, on this significant occasion of India’s Independence Day, I convey my heartfelt wishes to the Government and people of India. As we commemorate this historic day, we honor the values of freedom, democracy, and unity that India has upheld since 1947. The relationship between Mauritius and India is deeply rooted in history and culture, fostering cooperation, friendship, and mutual respect. May India continue to thrive in peace, prosperity, and progress, serving as a beacon of resilience and vision. Happy Independence Day, India!" Ramgoolam stated in a post on X.

PM Modi expressed gratitude towards his Mauritian counterpart, referring to Mauritius as India's strategic and trusted partner in the joint endeavor for progress, prosperity, and a promising future for both nations.

"I sincerely appreciate your warm wishes, Prime Minister Dr. Navin Ramgoolam, on the occasion of our Independence Day. Mauritius will always be a strategic and trusted partner in our collective pursuit of progress, prosperity, and a bright future for our peoples," PM Modi posted on X.

Earlier this year, PM Modi conducted a two-day State visit to Mauritius at the invitation of Ramgoolam to partake in the 57th National Day celebrations of Mauritius. During this visit, PM Modi held a bilateral meeting with Ramgoolam and the President of Mauritius, Dharam Gokhool.

India has maintained close and enduring relations with Mauritius, founded on shared history, demographics, and culture, as stated by the Indian High Commission in Mauritius. Mauritius was among the first few significant countries with which independent India established diplomatic ties in 1948, even before Mauritius gained independence. This relationship has been characterized by a high degree of trust and mutual understanding at the leadership level, coupled with ongoing high-level political engagement.
