Shillong, April 9 (NationPress) As part of an outreach initiative, Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma visited Syntung Village in the Mawkynrew Block to engage meaningfully with local communities, reinforcing his government's dedication to inclusive development and empowering the people of Meghalaya.
His visit was centered around a series of significant interactions and discussions on topics such as agricultural transformation, youth empowerment, self-help groups, and government welfare schemes aimed at enhancing rural life.
The day commenced with a warm interaction with members of the Jatah IVCS on the way to Syntung, where the Chief Minister received a gracious welcome from local leaders and residents.
The Jatah and Syntung IVCS is a society launched by the Megha-LAMP, a statewide project of the Meghalaya government.
This society has reached out to at least 155 households out of a total of 165 households and primarily aims to provide financial services, economic opportunities, and meet other vital community needs through collective efforts.
During his inaugural visit to Syntung village, the Chief Minister remarked: “My visits to rural areas are not just to listen to your issues, but to build a stronger bond between the government and our farmers. I wish to hear your suggestions and concerns so we can collaborate for meaningful development.”
“We have been tirelessly working to support our rural populations. In 2018, we had 5,000 Self-Help Groups, and now we boast over 50,000 SHGs. Our funding has also surged, from Rs 30 crore to Rs 1,000 crores,” the Chief Minister stated.
He further mentioned that the government is establishing a Farmers’ Market in Jatah to tackle market linkage challenges.
Over the last seven years, the government has distributed more than 300 agricultural vehicles to Integrated Village Cooperative Societies.
“We are also dedicated to supporting our farmers through the CM ASSURE initiative. We have allocated a fund of Rs 100 crore to directly purchase broom grass from our farmers. This initiative has already benefited over 3,500 farmers, and in Mawkynrew, we have procured 25 metric tons of broom grass,” the Chief Minister elaborated.
Moreover, a youth representative from the Sports Club in Jatah requested improvements in infrastructure, particularly regarding the football ground and gallery.
To enhance rural infrastructure, the Chief Minister announced that Rs 5 lakh will be allocated from the Chief Minister’s Special Development Fund for the construction of a Village Office (VO).
The issue of timely wage distribution for job card holders under MGNREGA was also addressed, with the Chief Minister assuring that wages would be distributed punctually, with no delays, and that the matter would be resolved before Easter.
