Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Shillong, March 6 (NationPress) The Chief Minister of Meghalaya, Conrad K. Sangma, emphasized on Friday that the essence of governance is not solely defined by infrastructure projects but rather by enhancing the everyday lives of the populace. This statement came as the state government celebrated its eight-year tenure with the "Our Magnificent Meghalaya Vision 2032" initiative in Tura.
Speaking to attendees at the P.A. Sangma Sports Complex, Sangma reviewed the progress of the Meghalaya Democratic Alliance (MDA) government since its inception in 2018. He recognized the various challenges confronted along the way and expressed sincere appreciation for the unwavering support from the community.
“Our eight-year journey has been laden with obstacles and hardships. There were moments of pain, and the path was certainly not straightforward. However, with divine blessings, the affection of the people, and the backing of our citizens, we have managed to navigate through many of these hurdles,” stated the Chief Minister.
Sangma articulated that while developments like roads, educational institutions, and new administrative facilities serve as vital indicators of progress, the greatest fulfillment for the government arises from the beneficial effects of its policies on the lives of individuals.
“People frequently inquire about the apex achievement of the past eight years — whether it’s the new Secretariat in Shillong, the Additional Secretariat in Tura, or the construction of roads and schools. However, the highest joy I derive is when we can put a smile on a citizen's face,” he remarked.
The Chief Minister further elaborated on what he described as three dimensions of development — the development that is communicated through announcements, the development visible through infrastructure, and the development that is tangibly felt through genuine changes in people's lives. “The most significant of these is the development that one can truly sense — such as when a life is saved in a hospital, when a child attains education in a school, or when a farmer's livelihood is enhanced due to government initiatives,” he added.
During the event, the government allocated financial assistance amounting to approximately Rs 220 crore to various beneficiaries through several schemes, including CM Farm+, CM Elevate SEED, CM Homestay Mission, and Green Meghalaya+.
Additionally, scholarships and uniform grants were distributed to thousands of students throughout the state.
