New Delhi, Jan 29 (NationPress) The Chief Minister of Meghalaya, Conrad K. Sangma, met with Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi on Thursday to engage in discussions regarding the developmental advancements of the state, its future growth strategies, and significant areas that require ongoing support from the central government.

During their meeting, CM Sangma expressed his gratitude to PM Modi for accommodating the meeting and conveyed heartfelt thanks on behalf of the people of Meghalaya for his kind wishes on the occasion of Meghalaya Statehood Day.

Additionally, he acknowledged the Prime Minister's recognition of Meghalaya's distinct cultural heritage, particularly the national recognition and global nomination of the Living Root Bridge Cultural Landscape, which has garnered international attention towards the state's indigenous knowledge systems and sustainable practices.

In updating PM Modi on recent progress in Meghalaya, CM Sangma emphasized the state's robust economic growth trajectory alongside improvements in crucial human development indicators.

He highlighted that there have been substantial improvements in maternal health outcomes and overall human development, facilitated by focused interventions and community-centric programs.

Furthermore, the Chief Minister outlined initiatives aimed at fortifying the rural economy, including the establishment of large processing units and enhanced market linkages designed to double the income of farmers.

He also discussed advancements related to the development of the New Shillong city project, envisioned as a modern, sustainable urban hub to support long-term economic growth.

Tourism development was another significant topic during the conversation.

CM Sangma noted that tourism has expanded due to private sector involvement and community-driven initiatives, which have not only created livelihoods but also preserved local culture and ecology.

He updated the Prime Minister on the preparations for hosting the 39th National Games in 2027, portraying it as a prime opportunity to enhance sports infrastructure and promote Meghalaya on a national level.

The meeting also included strategic discussions on the state's future growth and development, focusing on key issues such as maintaining economic momentum in smaller North Eastern Region (NER) states, securing ongoing central support for capital investments, increasing the ceiling for Externally Aided Projects in Meghalaya, infrastructure development, fiscal empowerment, and long-term strategies to solidify the state's economic foundation.

CM Sangma presented a comprehensive set of documents to PM Modi, outlining Meghalaya's development achievements and future vision.

This included a detailed account of the state's accomplishments, Vision 2032 aimed at ensuring sustained economic growth, and proposals requesting continued support from the Union government to maintain developmental momentum in accordance with the national vision of 'Viksit Bharat'.

PM Modi listened attentively to the presentations and assured ongoing support for Meghalaya's developmental aspirations, according to Chief Minister Sangma.
