Shillong, March 5 (NationPress) - On Thursday, Meghalaya's Chief Minister, Conrad K. Sangma, participated in the “Our Magnificent Vision 2032 | Meghalaya” event held at the Police Reserve Parade Ground in Williamnagar, located in the East Garo Hills district. This occasion saw the distribution of benefits from the Green Meghalaya initiative and the FOCUS+ scheme to various beneficiaries.
The event was organized to commemorate eight years of the Meghalaya Democratic Alliance (MDA) government, showcasing numerous development projects aimed at enhancing service delivery, expanding infrastructure, and creating better livelihood opportunities.
During his address, Sangma emphasized the government's commitment to pursuing a clear vision and defined targets, despite the numerous challenges inherent in governance and public administration.
“We acknowledge the diverse aspirations of our society, and we are diligently working to fulfill the expectations of our citizens,” he stated.
The Chief Minister expressed gratitude for the support received from the Union government in executing various development initiatives within the state. He also conveyed a message from Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the occasion of Meghalaya Day, praising the rapid development occurring in the state.
Sangma took pride in Meghalaya being recognized as the second fastest-growing state in India, asserting that this achievement is a source of pride for its residents.
He reiterated the state’s ambitious goal of establishing a 10-billion-dollar economy in the near future, stressing the importance of inclusive and balanced growth so that all citizens benefit from development.
He added that infrastructure advancements should coincide with livelihood initiatives such as FOCUS+, Green Meghalaya, and PRIME, ensuring that economic progress translates to enhanced living standards for all.
The Chief Minister also highlighted the significance of community involvement in programs like Green Meghalaya, which incentivizes communities, clans, and individuals to preserve natural forests for a minimum of 30 years.
M. N. Marak, local MLA and Minister for Soil and Water Conservation, noted that the East Garo Hills district is experiencing consistent progress in various sectors, including health, education, and infrastructure.
He reported that 1,608 new beneficiaries have been enrolled in the FOCUS+ program and cheques totaling Rs 2.80 crore were distributed during the event.
Marak further stated that over 5.40 lakh households have been connected through the Jal Jeevan Mission, with efforts ongoing to ensure all connections are fully operational.
The event also featured interactions with beneficiaries and the distribution of financial support under the Green Meghalaya initiative, which promotes community-led forest conservation through incentives for protecting natural ecosystems.
