The initiative was introduced during a distribution event hosted by the Department of Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare in collaboration with the Directorate of Horticulture at SMELC. The aim is to unify essential schemes that boost productivity, encourage sustainability, and elevate farmers' incomes.
During his address, Sangma reasserted the government's commitment to targeted interventions, value addition, and skill enhancement to boost agricultural output and income.
He highlighted the necessity of supporting not only individual farmers but also enhancing self-help groups to expand their capabilities.
Addressing challenges, the Chief Minister acknowledged that timely access to quality seeds is a pressing issue. He assured that the government is tackling this problem with a focused approach to ensure farmers receive the appropriate inputs when needed.
Touching on the Ginger Mission, he revealed that the government has invested over Rs 62 crore since 2022, aiding more than 19,000 farmers, with plans to extend support to an additional 15,000.
This initiative aims to re-establish Meghalaya as a top ginger-producing state.
Sangma also highlighted the significance of organic farming, announcing assistance for low-cost vermicomposting units through the Organic Manure Scheme, enabling farmers to become self-sufficient in organic inputs while reducing reliance on external resources.
