Shillong, Dec 1 (NationPress) Meghalaya's Chief Minister Conrad Sangma emphasized on Monday that his administration has made farmer welfare a key focus, leading to significant benefits for the community of farmers in the state.
Sangma participated in the 4th World Organic Youth Summit held in Shillong, coinciding with the 1st Northeast India Organic Week cum Buyer Seller Meet.
While addressing the audience, the Chief Minister highlighted that the government’s plans and initiatives are dedicated to uplifting farmers, noting that the summit aims to promote learning, sharing, and supporting farmers beyond its three-day duration.
“Farmers are integral to our policies, and our various mission-driven programs in the Agriculture sector are designed to empower them by providing essential support and assistance,” he stated.
Regarding the state’s Organic Mission, he mentioned that organic farming is more than just a trend; it is rooted in the traditions and practices of ancestors who have cultivated the land for generations.
He also shared that agriculture, tourism, and the service sector are vital to the government and expressed enthusiasm for the convergence of tourism and agriculture, particularly organic farming, highlighting that numerous activities in tourism are being linked with the organic mission alongside entrepreneurship initiatives.
Concluding his remarks, Sangma expressed his joy at the summit being hosted in Shillong, stating, “We have strongly endorsed organic farming, and I hope this summit serves as a platform for sharing the wisdom and practices of our forefathers with a global audience, paving the way for relationship building, experience sharing, and networking.”
After his speech, the Chief Minister engaged with international participants who inquired about the state’s vision, technology use, logistics support, and other elements beneficial for young organic entrepreneurs. The Organic Meghalaya Compendium and the website Megnolia were also launched during this event.
