Srinagar, Dec 10 (NationPress) Former Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir and leader of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Mehbooba Mufti, expressed on Wednesday that the ruling National Conference (NC) has not lived up to the fundamental expectations placed upon it.
“The National Conference has not met even the essential expectations. Be it regarding reservation, unemployment, electricity, or governance, it has continuously cited the lack of statehood as a shield for its failure to deliver on electoral commitments,” Mehbooba Mufti stated on X.
In her remarks shared in the PDP newsletter, Mehbooba Mufti noted that as the harsh winter sets in, the people of Kashmir were left in anticipation of government support.
She indicated that the government might announce plans for electricity procurement and a reduction in power cuts, especially as this winter is anticipated to be colder and longer.
“Sadly, those hopes were dashed. The government remains fixed on installing prepaid meters. With our economy in disarray, where tourism has plummeted, and horticulture has faced substantial losses due to national highway closures, compounded by the lingering effects of the Red Fort blast, the government's focus remains on prepaid meters as if our economy has not already been devastated by these incidents,” she criticized.
She reiterated that the ruling National Conference has failed to meet the most basic expectations.
“In terms of reservation, unemployment, electricity, and governance, it continues to use the absence of statehood as a cover for its inability to keep its electoral pledges,” she noted.
The former Chief Minister asserted that lacking statehood does not prevent the government from providing 200 free units of electricity or gas cylinders to its people.
“What distinguishes us from regions like UP and Bihar? Here, Muslim homes are being demolished, and the same Chief Minister, elected with nearly 50 seats, has the audacity to label our people as land grabbers,” she added.
Mehbooba Mufti further stated that now, eager bureaucrats, emboldened by their Chief Minister's statements, are demolishing homes indiscriminately, while the NC has failed to fulfill its promises, transforming into an enforcer for the government of India's ‘Bulldozer Raj’.
