New Delhi, Jan 20 (NationPress) The current inquiry into the stabbing incident involving Bollywood star Saif Ali Khan has faced scrutiny regarding its management and the surrounding political blame game. Senior NCP (SP) figure Majeed Memon has expressed worries about the absence of confidentiality in the investigation and the ensuing political uproar, especially as parties clash over the accused's Bangladeshi identity and the means by which he entered Indian territory.
Memon challenged the approach taken in the investigation, underscoring the importance of discretion in such a high-profile matter.
"The investigation is at a very critical stage. When a police officer investigates a serious and highly publicized case, it is expected that they do so confidentially. If they seek publicity, it is as if they are abandoning their role as a police officer and becoming an actor," he stated, further asserting that revealing sensitive information undermines justice.
He cautioned against politicizing the case, indicating that BJP would likely leverage this incident to target AAP, claiming that the accused entered India through Delhi.
"The matter of how these Bangladeshis enter the country and engage in such acts needs addressing. However, intertwining politics with governance and justice is unjust," he remarked.
Sources have indicated that some reports claim the accused has admitted to the crime, but Memon dismissed this tactic as counterproductive.
"Every hour, news is emerging saying the accused has confessed, but if he has done so, the case would be closed. This sort of publicity is against justice," he noted.
He further stated, "It is shameful that individuals like this are allowed to operate in a city like Mumbai without detection. Now, it is claimed he is Bangladeshi. Has it been confirmed whether he is Bangladeshi, Pakistani, or from elsewhere?"
Memon concluded by urging officials to concentrate on evidence and legal processes instead of exacerbating political narratives. He criticized both ruling and opposition parties for exploiting such events to gain political advantages, arguing that this undermines the victim’s quest for justice.
Mohammad Shariful Islam Shehzad, the 30-year-old Bangladeshi national arrested for allegedly stabbing actor Saif Ali Khan during a failed robbery attempt, informed police that he was a wrestler in Bangladesh prior to arriving in India, as per sources.
