The Collector of Nagarkurnool district requested assistance from South Central Railway (SCR) to aid in the rescue mission by clearing the steel and iron debris that has been obstructing the operations at the site.

In response, SCR promptly dispatched two teams of metal-cutting specialists to assist with the rescue efforts.

The first team, led by S. Murali, Divisional Mechanical Engineer at SCR, includes a senior section engineer, 13 welders, and two technicians from Secunderabad, Lallaguda, and Rayanapadu workshops, who have arrived at the site to commence the necessary work.

SCR has also indicated that a second group of specialists, comprising a senior section engineer and four technicians, will soon join the first team to provide additional support.

The teams have been equipped with essential machinery, including one plasma cutting machine, one Brocho cutting machine, consumables, one portable air compressor, six plasma cutters, one ultra-thermic cutting device, 20 packets of electrodes, one battery, six oxygen cylinders, two welding machines, four packets of welding electrodes, helmets, and retro-reflective jackets, as stated by SCR.

SCR is leading the efforts to remove debris and expedite the mission to rescue the workers and provide aid, it added.

Personnel from the Army, Navy, National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), rat miners, and others are actively participating in extensive operations to eliminate silt and debris from the tunnel.

The rescue teams have been utilizing plasma cutters to detach damaged components of the tail section of the Tunnel Boring Machine (TBM) to clear blockages at the access point of the tunnel where the eight individuals are trapped.

Additionally, rescue workers are striving to ensure that the locomotive train reaches the final point and that the conveyor belt becomes operational.

Irrigation Minister N. Uttam Kumar Reddy, who is overseeing the rescue operation, stated that plasma cutters, high-grade shutters, and debris removal machinery are being deployed while international experts are supervising the strategy.
