Key Takeaways
Bhubaneswar, Nov 5 (NationPress) The ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has declared its intention to commemorate the 150th anniversary of the national anthem Vande Mataram in a significant manner, featuring a multitude of programs across various regions in Odisha.
During a press conference held at the party’s state headquarters, BJP State Vice President Bishnu Das announced that the central government and the party have collaboratively planned this momentous celebration at numerous venues nationwide.
In Odisha, events will take place in five major cities — Bhubaneswar, Berhampur, Rourkela, Balasore, and Keonjhar.
“Special events will be arranged in each Assembly constituency to underscore the historical importance and enduring significance of Vande Mataram, including speeches, cultural performances, and public renditions of the song,” Das stated.
He also recalled the song's debut at the 1896 Indian National Congress session, where it was performed by Nobel laureate Rabindranath Tagore.
“This celebration will remind every citizen of the patriotic and emotional essence embodied in the song,” he added.
As part of the nationwide festivities, students in educational institutions throughout Odisha will sing Vande Mataram (also known as Bande Mataram) on November 7 to honor the 150th anniversary of this iconic patriotic anthem.
Regarding government involvement, Das indicated that Chief Ministers and ministers from various states, including Odisha, will be invited to partake in the celebrations.
“We have requested the state government to ensure that Vande Mataram is sung in all district headquarters, schools, and government offices,” he stated.
The BJP plans to host the main inaugural ceremony in Bhubaneswar, followed by similar events in other cities and educational institutions across the state.
During the press conference, Das also mentioned that in 1923, the Congress party hesitated to sing Vande Mataram and later decided against performing it at various party events.
He pointed out that after independence, the first President, Rajendra Prasad, designated the first two verses of Vande Mataram as the national song in 1950.
Importantly, on October 1, Prime Minister Narendra Modi approved a decision in the Union Cabinet to celebrate the 150th anniversary of the national song Vande Mataram, penned by Bankim Chandra Chattopadhyay.
