MHA Reinstates Protected Area Regulations in Three Northeastern States Due to Security Issues

Imphal, Dec 18 (NationPress) The government of Manipur announced on Wednesday that, considering the increasing security risks stemming from immigration from bordering countries, the Union Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has reinstated the Protected Area Regime in Manipur and its neighboring states, Mizoram and Nagaland, as reported by officials.

An official announcement indicated that with the reinstatement of the Protected Area Regime, the movement of foreign visitors to Manipur will be subject to strict monitoring, and they must secure the appropriate Protected Area Permits (PAP) in line with the Foreigners (Protected Areas) Order of 1958.

The Manipur government aims to clarify certain assertions made by a group referring to itself as the 'Kuki-Zo Council', stating that investigations have revealed the absence of such an organization in Manipur.

The legitimacy and origins of this group are under serious scrutiny, the statement mentioned.

"There is no district named Lamka, identified as the headquarters of the organization, within Manipur. This raises significant doubts regarding the external origins of such groups that seem to operate beyond legal and administrative boundaries," the statement continued.

As per the statement, the police are thoroughly investigating this issue and will file a First Information Report (FIR) to determine the true nature and motives behind these misleading activities.

The citizens of Manipur are advised to remain cautious and avoid paying attention to statements or claims from organizations of questionable legitimacy that have recently emerged with the apparent goal of fostering confusion and unrest, it noted.

The government is dedicated to preserving peace and stability in the state, urging citizens to stay alert and rely only on trustworthy sources of information, it added.

Further information will be provided as investigations unfold, it stated.

The state government also called upon the media, both national and local, to avoid promoting press releases from unauthorized organizations and individuals.

The central government and its agencies are also urging the public to disregard claims from unverified organizations.

The restoration of peace and harmony among our communities is of paramount importance at this critical time, the government emphasized, asserting that any actions undermining the peace process will not be tolerated.
