Thiruvananthapuram, Sep 5 (IANS) The Kerala Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation (KCMMF), commonly referred to as Milma, has achieved unprecedented sales this Onam season, driven by a remarkable demand for ghee and consistent growth in milk and curd.
From August 1 to 31, Milma recorded sales of 863.92 tonnes of ghee, marking a significant 30 percent rise from 663.74 tonnes the prior year.
In the four days preceding Onam, an additional 127.16 tonnes were sold, culminating in a festive total of 991.08 tonnes of ghee. Sales of milk and curd also showed positive trends.
On Uthradam day (September 4), Milma sold 38.03 lakh litres of milk and 3.97 lakh kg of curd, exceeding last year's figures of 37 lakh litres and 3.91 lakh kg respectively.
In the five days leading up to Uthradam, total sales reached 1.19 crore litres of milk (up from 1.16 crore litres) and 14.58 lakh kg of curd (up from 13.76 lakh kg), reflecting an average annual increase of approximately 5 percent.
Milma credits this remarkable performance to effective planning, procurement strategies, and enhanced supply chain efficiency to meet festive demands.
“This record success showcases the deep trust consumers have in Milma’s essential products, known for their excellence and prompt delivery,” stated K.S. Mani, chairman of KCMMF.
The cooperative also launched 50-ml ghee packs included in six lakh Supplyco kits, along with a variety of ready-to-eat payasams and payasam kits, both of which saw strong sales.
Mani acknowledged the achievement as a collective effort from the federation’s board of directors, regional unions, management, dairy farmers, employees, distributors, and logistics teams.
He extended Onam wishes to Keralites globally, highlighting the significance of consumer loyalty in Milma’s ongoing success.
The exceptional Onam sales underscore Milma’s robust market position in Kerala’s dairy industry, even as competition from private brands intensifies.
With nearly one crore households relying on Milma products, the cooperative's ability to maintain double-digit growth in value-added products like ghee, while ensuring stable volumes in milk and curd, solidifies its status as the leading dairy supplier in the state.
