Mumbai, March 6 (NationPress) - The Speaker of the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly, Rahul Narwekar, on Thursday acknowledged three distinct privilege motions brought forth by Jaykumar Gore, the Minister of Rural Development and BJP leader, targeting Sanjay Raut, executive editor of Saamna and Shiv Sena MP, Rohit Pawar, NCP(SP) Legislator, and the YouTube channel Laibhari along with journalist Tushar Kharat. These motions are based on accusations of defamation linked to a 2017 incident.
The Speaker stated that due to the gravity of the situation, he would be sending all three privilege motions to the House Privileges Committee for further examination.
The Minister explained that he was compelled to take this action after being falsely accused of sending inappropriate photographs to a woman in 2017 and of harassing her. He pointed out that the court had already cleared him of these allegations in 2019, emphasizing the seriousness of the renewed accusations aimed at undermining him.
Gore further accused Raut of tarnishing his reputation and disrespecting the state Assembly, leading him to file a privilege motion against the MP. He also claimed that Rohit Pawar has similarly harmed his image through unfounded claims.
In his privilege motion regarding the YouTube channel Laibhari and journalist Tushar Kharat, Gore highlighted that the media serves as the fourth pillar of democracy and should uphold certain standards while reporting.
Gore urged Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, present in the legislature, to conduct a comprehensive investigation into the allegations. “If I am proven guilty, I am ready to accept any consequences,” he stated in the House.
He mentioned a complaint made to the Governor, revealing that the government had investigated the matter, and it was later discovered that the individual who signed the complaint retracted their signature in their statement to the Satara Superintendent of Police. He called for action regarding the submission of a fraudulent letter, asserting it was intended to damage his reputation and that of his family, which poses a significant threat.
“Certain elected officials, both within the Assembly and outside, conspired against me following their defeat in the state council elections. They filed a complaint against me. The issue was resurrected even before my father's ashes were immersed. They displayed a lack of decency by not waiting even 10 days after my father's passing to revive this eight-year-old matter. This was an attempt to undermine my leadership, which I built without a political lineage, coming from a humble background,” he remarked.
