New Delhi, April 11 (NationPress) Defence Minister Rajnath Singh praised DRDO, IAF, and the defense industry for the successful development trials of the Long-Range Glide Bomb (LRGB) 'Gaurav' launched from the Su-30 MKI aircraft, as confirmed by an official on Friday.

The Minister noted that the advancement of LRGB will significantly boost the capabilities of the armed forces.

The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) effectively carried out the release trials of Gaurav from a Su-30 MKI aircraft.

During the trials conducted from April 8 to 10, the weapon was integrated with multiple stations in various warhead configurations, targeting land on an island. The trials successfully showcased a range close to 100 km with pinpoint accuracy, as stated by the official.

The LRGB 'Gaurav' is classified as a 1,000 kg class glide bomb, developed indigenously by the Research Centre Imarat, Armament Research and Development Establishment, and the Integrated Test Range in Chandipur.

High-ranking officials from DRDO and the IAF oversaw the trials, as mentioned in the statement.

The system was realized with the backing of MSMEs, and the trials are expected to facilitate the weapon's induction into the IAF.

The Centre for Military Airworthiness and Certification and Directorate General of Aeronautical Quality Assurance played significant roles in Certification and Quality Assurance, it added.

Secretary of the Department of Defence R&D and Chairman of DRDO, Dr. Samir V. Kamat, also congratulated the entire DRDO team for their successful release trials.

Recently, DRDO and the Indian Army conducted four successful flight tests of the Army version of the Medium-Range Surface-to-Air Missile (MRSAM) from Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam Island off the Odisha coast on April 3 and 4.

The four operational flight trials were executed against high-speed aerial targets.

The missiles successfully intercepted the aerial targets, achieving direct hits. The trials were designed to engage four targets across long-range, short-range, high altitude, and low altitude, demonstrating their operational capabilities.
