Kannur, March 18 (NationPress) A 12-year-old girl admitted on Tuesday to the tragic act of killing her four-month-old cousin sister by tossing her into a well located near Kannur in Kerala.
On Monday night, the infant girl, Yasika, who was the child of Tamil Nadu residents Muthu and Akkamal, disappeared, prompting a search effort.
After several hours, Yasika's remains were discovered in a well at her home.
Following extensive questioning, the young suspect, the daughter of Muthu's sibling, confessed to the heinous act.
Since the passing of Muthu's brother last year, the 12-year-old has been living with his family.
On Tuesday morning, authorities interrogated Muthu, his niece, and Akammal, leading to the young girl breaking down and confessing.
For their livelihood, Muthu and his wife collected waste materials, while Muthu's niece cared for Yasika during their working hours.
During her interrogation, the young girl expressed feelings of jealousy, stating that after Yasika's birth, she believed that Muthu and Akammal had redirected their love and attention toward the newborn.
Neighbor Ajayakumar commented, "The accused was frequently seen with her sister and often visited the shop. We are stunned by this news."
Another neighbor, Yusuf, remarked, "I sensed something was amiss with the 12-year-old. Additionally, on Monday, she claimed that when Yasika vanished, she was outside for a brief moment. When asked how long she had been gone, she said 10 minutes, which raised my suspicions about her involvement in the crime."
