Mirwaiz Umar Farooq Commends J&K Police's Efforts Against Drug Traffickers

Srinagar, Dec 2 (NationPress) In a historic moment since assuming the title of ‘Mirwaiz’ (Head Priest) after his father's tragic death in 1990, Maulvi Umar Farooq, the Chairman of the separatist Hurriyat Conference, expressed his appreciation for the J&K Police on Monday.
During a sermon delivered at a local mosque, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq endorsed the police's initiative targeting the properties of drug peddlers.
He commended the government's decision to seize the assets of drug traffickers in Kashmir, highlighting this as a significant step in the ongoing battle against the drug crisis in the Valley.
"It is heartening to witness the administration taking firm actions. Positive measures from authorities aimed at societal well-being deserve recognition from all quarters," he stated.
Mirwaiz Umar emphasized the necessity for a collaborative approach to enhance community conditions in light of the escalating issue of drug addiction in Kashmir. He urged for a united front to address this pressing epidemic.
"The extensive network of mosques throughout the region can function as crucial hubs in this struggle. Mosque committees can work together to devise effective strategies for combating drug addiction in their respective locales," he noted.
"Engaging community members is essential in addressing the drug challenge, as they can monitor suspicious activities in their neighborhoods and assist in rehabilitation efforts," he added.
The prevalence of drug use has emerged as a critical issue affecting local youth. Intelligence assessments suggest that various terrorist groups exploit drugs to ensnare young individuals, enticing them to join their ranks under the influence of addiction. In response, the police have launched a vigorous campaign across the Union Territory to specifically target drug smugglers by seizing their assets acquired through illicit means.
