Srinagar, March 6 (NationPress) Prominent religious figure and chief cleric of Kashmir, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, announced on Friday that he has been placed under house arrest due to ongoing restrictions throughout the Valley. Mirwaiz Umar conveyed on X, “The restrictions persist in the valley and have intensified on this Friday during the sacred month of Ramzan. I am now under house arrest, and during these blessed days, when countless individuals seek blessings and guidance in mosques, the pulpit of Jama Masjid remains silent, with all access routes to the mosque blocked. This situation is profoundly disheartening and unfortunate.”
He also criticized the actions of the US and Israel towards Iran, stating, “The sorrow experienced in Kashmir today is not solely due to these restrictions. Muslims globally are feeling distressed and anxious due to the aggression displayed by Israeli and American forces in the region. Their desire to reshape the region for their own benefit has led to extreme measures, as evidenced by the brutal assassination of a nation's leader and spiritual figure, Ayatullah Khamenei, alongside the assault on the sovereign state of Iran, which has plunged the entire region into turmoil and mourning.”
