Srinagar, March 14 (NationPress) The Anjuman-e-Auqaf Jamia Masjid in Jammu and Kashmir’s Srinagar city voiced profound disappointment and sorrow on Friday regarding the purported house arrest of its leader, Maulvi Umer Farooq, which has hindered him from delivering the Friday sermon and participating in congregational prayers at the revered mosque.

A statement released by the Mirwaiz-led Anjuman-e-Auqaf Jamia Masjid declared, “This arbitrary and unjustifiable action by the authorities occurs during the holy month of Ramzan, a period of great spiritual importance for Muslims around the globe.”

“The Jamia Masjid serves as the central venue for worship where thousands convene for Friday prayers, seeking divine guidance, blessings, and a connection with the Almighty. However, restricting the Mirwaiz from executing his religious responsibilities and obstructing the faithful from gaining insight from his sermons significantly wounds the religious sentiments of the community,” the statement added.

Mirwaiz Umer Farooq is the chairman of the Hurriyat Conference.

It is noteworthy that just two days prior, the Union Home Ministry (MHA) prohibited the Awami Action Committee (ACC), led by Mirwaiz Umer Farooq, for five years under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act.

The ACC was established by the late Mirwaiz Maulana Mohammad Farooq in 1963 amid the Holy Relic agitation in Kashmir. Following the assassination of Mirwaiz Maulana Mohammad Farooq by terrorists in 1990, his son, Mirwaiz Umer Farooq, took the helm of the ACC.

The MHA also imposed a five-year ban on J&K Ittehadul Muslimeen (JKIM), which is led by Maulvi Masroor Abbas Ansari, under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act.

The JKIM was founded by the late Maulvi Abbas Ansari, a prominent Shia Muslim separatist leader. After his passing, his son, Maulvi Masroor Abbas, succeeded him as head of JKIM.

The Union Home Minister, Amit Shah, stated in a post on the social media platform X that these organizations were inciting individuals to disrupt law and order, endangering the unity and integrity of the nation.

Amit Shah asserted that anyone found participating in activities detrimental to the nation’s peace, order, and sovereignty would inevitably face the stringent repercussions of the Modi government.
