Speaking to a large audience at the Mising Youth Festival held in Assam's Dhemaji district, Shah highlighted the Central government's dedication, under Prime Minister Narendra Modi, to safeguarding, promoting, and valuing the distinct culture and traditions of the Mising people.
Beginning his speech with the rallying cry of “Bharat Mata ki Jai”, the Home Minister expressed his respect and appreciation for the Mising community.
“I pay my respects to the Mising community. I feel privileged to stand before you today. Missing this gathering would have meant losing out on witnessing such a rich and significant celebration,” he remarked, receiving enthusiastic applause.
Shah described Mising culture as an integral aspect of Assam’s identity, representing the essence of both the state and the nation.
He also honored the vital contributions of the Mising people during India’s struggle for independence, asserting that their sacrifices and role in nation-building are invaluable.
Shah pointed out the community’s profound connection to nature, stating that festivals such as this one exemplify principles of environmental balance and coexistence.
As part of his commitment to youth empowerment, Shah announced that the Centre will implement special provisions to enhance Mising youth representation in the security forces, specifically the CRPF.
“We will take concrete actions to create avenues for Mising youth to serve the nation through the CRPF,” he promised.
In discussing developmental projects in Assam, Shah mentioned his earlier bhumi pujan for the second legislative assembly building in Dibrugarh.
He also brought attention to the forthcoming semiconductor manufacturing plant in Jagiroad, projected to create job opportunities for approximately 27,000 young individuals.
The Home Minister reiterated the Centre's commitment to inclusive development while preserving the cultural heritage of indigenous communities throughout the Northeast.
