Aizawl, Feb 13 (NationPress) The Chief Minister of Mizoram, Lalduhoma, expressed gratitude to Union Minister Nitin Gadkari on Friday for his ongoing support towards the state. He noted that several proposals forwarded by the state government have been positively acknowledged by the Centre.

During a meeting at the Chief Minister’s Conference Hall, Lalduhoma discussed the adoption of rigid pavement technology designed for Mizoram’s heavy rainfall conditions with officials from the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways.

The Chief Minister led a review meeting regarding significant highway projects being executed by the National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL) and the state’s Public Works Department, covering ongoing initiatives, completed segments, and the challenges encountered.

This meeting also revisited previous decisions from a review conducted in September of the prior year.

Participants were updated on highway enhancement efforts across various districts, along with proposals pending central approval.

Present at the meeting were PWD Minister Vanlalhlana, EF&CC Minister Lalthansanga, Revenue Minister B. Lalchhanzova, senior state officials, and representatives from highway authorities.

An official from the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) reported that Lalduhoma had previously emphasized, in discussions with various agencies including NHIDCL, the necessity for timely and effective repairs during the Contractor Liability Period.

The Chief Minister also pointed out that new bypass roads must ensure proper handover of existing roads through towns to the state PWD. He stressed that the Aizawl–Vairengte road (National Highway-6), which serves as Mizoram's lifeline, must be prioritized.

He recommended the Central ministry to employ rigid pavement for highway construction in Mizoram, given the region's heavy rainfall and extended monsoon season, which exacerbates road deterioration.

Recognizing that Union Minister Gadkari has already instructed NHIDCL to explore this proposal, the Chief Minister urged concerned officials to accelerate progress on this issue.

Point of View

It's clear that the collaboration between state and central government is pivotal. Chief Minister Lalduhoma's proactive approach and appreciation towards Union Minister Gadkari reflect a commitment to enhancing road safety and connectivity. The focus on innovative solutions like rigid pavement technology is commendable, especially in the context of the state's climatic challenges.
