Aizawl, Aug 15 (NationPress) The Chief Minister of Mizoram, Lalduhoma, on Friday called upon the citizens to bolster their support for Prime Minister Narendra Modi in his mission to protect the nation's independence, foster unity and integrity, and retain Mizoram's status as one of the most tranquil states.
While raising the national flag during the 79th Independence Day festivities at the Assam Rifles ground, the Chief Minister announced the formation of a dedicated unit named the 'Mizo Diaspora Cell' within the Chief Minister's Office (CMO) to assist Mizos residing abroad.
“Additionally, we have introduced the 'Mizo Diaspora Hub' portal, aimed at connecting with the Mizo community worldwide,” he elaborated.
As a former IPS officer, Lalduhoma shared that the establishment of a 'Mizo Territorial Army' has received approval, with plans to initially raise two companies. The recruitment drive is currently active. Efforts are also underway to enlist 300 Mizo youth into the Border Security Force (BSF). Through the Mizoram Youth Commission (MYC), five Mizo youths have successfully joined the British Army, with optimism for further opportunities, he added.
The Chief Minister emphasized the need to find alternative solutions for addressing the growing challenges in managing drug abuse, stating, “We have revitalized the 'Ruihlo Dotu Pawl' (Anti-Drugs Squad) core committee after a two-year hiatus. Plans are being formulated to collaborate with churches and other organizations.” He noted that Mizoram has been recognized as India’s first fully literate state, and that school textbooks have been efficiently laminated and distributed.
He informed the audience that the government has procured five essential agricultural products: Broom, Turmeric, Mizo Chilli, Rice Hull, and Ginger.
“There are no obstacles in the trading of Mizo Chilli; a support price has been established for 400 quintals of Turmeric, and we have acquired 1472 quintals of Rice Hull,” the Chief Minister explained.
Under the CM’s Rubber Mission, plans are in place for 1,000 hectares and 2,000 hectares of new plantations in Phase-1 and Phase-2 respectively. A total of 100 rubber-tapping machines will be allocated to various clusters.
Through the Handholding initiative, an investment of Rs 2.5 crore has been made in the “Empowering Mizoram Sports” program, which aims to support Mizo youth aspiring to represent India at the 2036 Olympics.
For the first time, national sports conclaves and international half-marathons have been hosted in Mizoram, Lalduhoma announced.
Highlighting the low Credit-Deposit Ratio in Mizoram, which indicates insufficient local lending by banks, the Chief Minister mentioned that the state government has urged banks to increase local lending, resulting in a gradual improvement of the CD ratio.
“We will not remain passive and will continue to advocate for banks to enhance this,” he affirmed.
The 79th Independence Day was commemorated across Mizoram through a variety of events and activities.
