New Delhi, March 22 (NationPress) In a remarkable advancement towards boosting India’s floriculture export capacity, which reached $86.62 million in FY 2023-2024, particularly from the northeastern region, the government announced on Saturday the successful dispatch of the inaugural consignment of Anthurium flowers from Aizawl, Mizoram, to Singapore.

The Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA), in partnership with the Department of Horticulture of the Mizoram government, organized this event on February 26, 2025, as reported by the Ministry of Commerce and Industry.

This shipment, consisting of 1,024 Anthurium cut flowers (weighing 70 kgs) neatly packed in 50 corrugated boxes, was sent by IVC Agrovet Pvt Ltd from Aizawl to Singapore via Kolkata.

The flowers were sourced from the Zo Anthurium Growers Cooperative Society in Aizawl and imported by Veg Pro Singapore Pte Ltd, marking a significant milestone in the region’s floriculture export journey, stated the ministry.

APEDA Chairman Abhishek Dev and Special Secretary of the Department of Horticulture in Mizoram, Ramdinliani, were present to flag off the first shipment of Anthurium flowers to Singapore.

Anthurium is among the most significant flowers cultivated in Mizoram, playing a crucial role in fostering local economic activity and benefiting farmers, including women.

The cultivation of this flower has provided a source of livelihood and empowerment for local communities. Moreover, Mizoram hosts the annual Anthurium Festival, which promotes tourism and showcases the flower’s aesthetic and ornamental appeal.

The export of Anthurium flowers from Mizoram to Singapore follows the successful International Conclave cum Buyer-Seller Meet (IBSM), organized by APEDA in collaboration with the state government on December 6, 2024, in Aizawl.

The IBSM attracted participation from nine international buyers from countries including Singapore, the UAE, Nepal, Jordan, Oman, Azerbaijan, Russia, and Ethiopia, along with 24 domestic exporters.

“This initial shipment of Anthurium flowers from Mizoram to Singapore signifies a pivotal advancement in expanding floriculture exports, particularly from the North Eastern Region,” stated the Central government.

APEDA reiterated its commitment to fostering this potential through export promotional initiatives and collaborations with various stakeholders in the region.
