Trinamool MLA Abdur Razzak Resigns Over Renomination Dispute
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Kolkata, April 16 (NationPress) Longstanding and three-term legislator from the Trinamool Congress representing the Jalangi Assembly seat in the minority-heavy Murshidabad district of West Bengal, Abdur Razzak, declared his resignation from the party on Thursday due to grievances over his lack of renomination.
During a press conference announcing his departure from the Trinamool Congress, Razzak launched a fierce critique of the party's leadership, predicting that the party's candidates will face defeat not only in Jalangi but also in the neighboring Domkal and Raninagar Assembly constituencies—areas where the party had secured victories in the 2021 Assembly elections.
He claimed that the refusal to renominate him stemmed from his inability to contribute a substantial sum of money to the party, asserting that integrity has no place within its ranks.
“Those adept at extortion can afford to pay significant amounts to the party for nominations. Without question, Trinamool Congress candidates will lose in Jalangi, Domkal, and Raninagar. Just wait for the results; I am confident my predictions will hold true. My intuition suggests that the party's performance elsewhere in the district will also be far from satisfactory,” Razzak stated.
In response, Apurba Sarkar, the district president of Trinamool Congress in Murshidabad, indicated that the party was aware of Razzak's secret dealings with opposition parties, which contributed to his denial of renomination.
“Frustration often grips certain individuals before elections. This was seen prior to the 2021 West Bengal Assembly elections as well. However, once the results are in, they usually experience reverse frustration,” Sarkar remarked.
He further alleged that Razzak's history of corruption was another reason for the denial of his renomination.
Despite Razzak's announcement to leave the Trinamool Congress, he did not disclose his future political intentions. This time, the party has nominated Babar Ali as the candidate for Jalangi. Following this announcement, infighting erupted within the Murshidabad unit of the ruling party, as many members argued that the candidate is an outsider.
