Kolkata, Jan 4 (NationPress) The Trinamool Congress stated on Sunday that Mausam Noor left the party due to uncertainty regarding her potential Rajya Sabha nomination for another term.
It is important to note that Noor's current tenure as an MP is set to conclude in April, and she may participate in the forthcoming Assembly elections in West Bengal from Malda.
According to sources within the Trinamool Congress, Noor experienced conflicts of personal interest with local leadership over trivial matters.
Moreover, Noor had drawn criticism from the Trinamool Congress for campaigning on behalf of her cousin, Isha Khan Choudhury, the Congress MP from the Maldaha Dakshin constituency, in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.
As the Assembly elections in West Bengal drew near, Noor rejoined the Congress on Saturday.
She previously served as a two-time Congress Lok Sabha member for the Maldaha Utttar constituency from 2009 to 2019.
Noor made her return to Congress at the party headquarters in Delhi, alongside party leaders Jairam Ramesh, AICC General Secretary Ghulam Ahmed Mir, and West Bengal Pradesh Congress Committee President Shuvankar Sarkar.
Following this development, the Trinamool Congress district leadership asserted that due to the generally unfavorable political climate in the district and her improved relationship with her brother Isha, she had been in touch with Congress leadership ahead of the Assembly elections.
Feeling somewhat confident about obtaining a Congress ticket from Malda district for the Assembly polls, Noor opted to return to her original party.
Prasenjit Das, the Trinamool Youth President of Malda district, commented, "Noor was previously with Congress. Afterward, she joined Trinamool, which provided her with numerous benefits, including her Rajya Sabha MP position. Now she seems to want more, prompting her return to her former party."
Chaitali Sarkar, the district Trinamool Chairman, expressed, "We hold Barkat Sahib (the late Union Minister A.B.A Ghani Khan Choudhury) in high regard. Now that Noor has departed from Trinamool, we are puzzled by her decision. However, only time will reveal whether this will influence district politics."
In response to the situation, district BJP leader Biswajit Roy stated, "This illustrates the downfall of the Trinamool party. They lack respect for anyone, including Mausam, and they disregard the legacy of Ghani Khan Choudhury."
Conversely, Krishnendu Narayan Chowdhury, the chairman of English Bazar Municipality, criticized Noor, stating, "Noor did nothing significant as a Rajya Sabha MP. She left the Trinamool expecting to receive a Congress ticket. This will not adversely affect the Trinamool in any way."
