Kolkata, March 9 (NationPress) On Monday, five candidates were announced as elected unopposed for the five Rajya Sabha seats from West Bengal. Among them, four belong to the Trinamool Congress, while one represents the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
Since the deadline for withdrawing nominations passed without any withdrawals, all five candidates were declared elected unopposed.
Following his election, Babul Supriyo, a former West Bengal Information Technology Minister and a renowned singer-turned-politician, expressed that his primary objective in the Upper House would be to shed light on concerns pertinent to West Bengal.
“Having previously served as a Union Minister of State, I am familiar with the Rajya Sabha,” stated Supriyo, who also has experience as a two-time BJP Lok Sabha member and a former Union Minister of State in the cabinet led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Additionally, Rajeev Kumar, a recently retired acting Director General of West Bengal Police and another Trinamool Congress candidate, remarked that being elected to the Upper House is a significant honor and responsibility.
