Trinamool Congress Aims for Over 250 Seats in Upcoming West Bengal Elections
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Kolkata, March 15 (NationPress) Following the announcement by the Election Commission regarding the scheduling of Assembly elections in West Bengal in two phases, the Trinamool Congress expressed strong confidence in securing over 250 seats within the state.
Trinamool spokesperson Kunal Ghosh addressed the media after the election notification was released, asserting that the reduced number of polling phases compared to previous elections would not impact the ruling party's prospects in West Bengal.
“Is the Election Commission truly impartial? Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar lacks impartiality. We refrain from making statements! We are equipped to handle even a single-phase election. Our sole demand is for impartiality. The public will respond to him after the elections. Every valid voter must be included in the polls. The BJP’s choice of contesting seats is just a strategy of deception. This time, Trinamool will secure Nandigram as well,” he stated.
Ghosh further articulated that the electorate in West Bengal would vote against the central government’s oppression and its vindictive politics that halted welfare scheme benefits in the state.
“The voters of West Bengal will stand against the central government's revenge politics, the deprivation of Bengal, the disrespect towards the Bengali language, and the insults directed at the people of Bengal. The citizens of Bengal will respond to those who are harassing them under the guise of Special Intensive Revision (SIR). The BJP will face an even greater defeat. TMC will emerge victorious with over 250 seats. Mamata Banerjee will regain power with more than 250 MLAs.
The Election Commission of India (ECI) announced a two-phase polling schedule for the 2026 West Bengal Assembly elections on April 23 and April 29, while the fate of over 42 lakh voters, classified under the 'logical discrepancy' category and referred for judicial adjudication, remains uncertain.
According to statistics from the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) of West Bengal, the total number of electors in the state stood at 7,66,37,529 prior to the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls announced last November. However, after the final voters’ list was published on February 28, excluding those under judicial adjudication, the count of electors dropped to 6,44,52,609.
