New Delhi, May 3 (NationPress) External Affairs Minister (EAM) S. Jaishankar expressed optimism that discussions between Angolan President Joao Manuel Goncalves Lourenco and Prime Minister Narendra Modi will pave the way for new growth opportunities in India-Angola relations and enhance India-Africa connections.
The EAM met with the Angolan President and appreciated his heartfelt sentiments towards India and his insights on advancing the partnership.
In a message on the social media platform X, EAM Jaishankar remarked: "Honored to meet the President of Angola during his State Visit to India. I cherish his warm feelings for our nation and his guidance in furthering our collaboration. I am confident that his discussions with PM @narendramodi later today will open new growth avenues for India-Angola and India-Africa relations."
Earlier in the day, President Droupadi Murmu and Prime Minister Modi warmly welcomed the Angolan President upon his arrival at Rashtrapati Bhavan.
In statements to the press after the ceremonial reception, President Lourenco noted, "We regard this visit as crucial for Angola to enhance the ties of friendship and cooperation between our nations. We are immensely grateful for the kind and welcoming reception we received from the people of India yesterday."
"This marks the first visit by an Angolan President to India in 38 years, coinciding with the 40th anniversary of our diplomatic relations this year," stated the MEA.
During his visit, President Lourenco is anticipated to hold separate meetings with Prime Minister Modi and President Murmu.
Both nations are expected to sign a range of agreements aimed at boosting collaboration across multiple sectors.
A number of memoranda of understanding (MoUs) and agreements are forecasted to be formalized during this visit.
On Sunday, President Lourenco will participate in a business event in New Delhi, designed to foster investment and commercial ties between the two countries.
In the financial year 2023–24, trade between the two nations reached $4.192 billion, according to the MEA.
This visit is anticipated to lay the groundwork for a more vibrant partnership that reflects the mutual priorities and aspirations of India and Angola.
