New Delhi, Jan 25 (NationPress) Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto engaged in crucial bilateral discussions at Hyderabad House in the capital on Saturday, marking a pivotal moment in strengthening relations between the two nations.

During the meeting, multiple Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) were signed, focusing on areas like health collaboration, digital infrastructure, and defence partnerships.

PM Modi underscored Indonesia's significance as a cooperative partner in the ASEAN and Indo-Pacific regions, reiterating India's dedication to ASEAN's unity and centrality through its 'Act East' strategy.

"The year 2025 will be commemorated as the India-ASEAN Year of Tourism, which will foster cultural exchanges and promote tourism between India and Indonesia. Indonesia is a vital ally for us in ASEAN and the Indo-Pacific. Together, we are committed to upholding peace, security, prosperity, and the rule of law in this region. We concur that freedom of navigation must be upheld in accordance with international laws," the Prime Minister stated.

"The unity and centrality of ASEAN have been underscored in our 'Act-East' policy," PM Modi remarked.

Reflecting on historical ties, PM Modi highlighted, "Indonesia was the chief guest at India's inaugural Republic Day. As we commemorate 75 years of the Republic, it is an honor that Indonesia is part of this significant milestone."

He pointed out the increasing bilateral trade, which surpassed $30 billion last year, and announced enhanced cooperation in fields such as Fintech, Artificial Intelligence, the Internet of Things, and digital public infrastructure.

Furthermore, he mentioned collaborative efforts in maritime security, cybersecurity, counter-terrorism, and de-radicalization.

Key agreements included measures for maritime safety and security aimed at enhancing crime prevention, search and rescue operations, and capacity building. Additionally, collaboration in energy, critical minerals, science, technology, and space was further reinforced.

PM Modi also highlighted cultural and historical connections, referencing the Ramayana, Mahabharata, and Bali Jatra, along with India's role in the preservation of Indonesia's Prambanan Hindu Temple.

The Prime Minister welcomed Indonesia's participation in BRICS and reaffirmed India's commitment to cooperating on matters of interest for Global South nations.

Prabowo expressed his appreciation to India for its enduring support, noting that the Indonesian Embassy in India is situated on land generously donated by the Indian government.

In extending greetings to India on its 76th Republic Day, Prabowo stated, "We are deeply honored that I will be the Chief Guest tomorrow at the Republic Day parade, especially since the first Chief Guest at India's first Republic Day was President Sukarno, making this a significant honor for me. This marks the first time that an Indonesian military contingent has participated in a military parade outside of Indonesia."

"Indonesia regards India as a long-time ally. India was among the first strong advocates of our independence. India provided assistance, financial support, and medical aid during our fight for freedom. Many Indian leaders stood by us during our most challenging periods," he added.

He also expressed gratitude to India for backing Indonesia's permanent membership in BRICS, stating, "We are confident that this collaboration will contribute positively to global stability and regional cooperation."

Prabowo emphasized that ongoing dialogues will fortify cooperation in trade, investment, tourism, health, energy, and technology.

Both leaders reiterated their mutual commitment to peace, security, and prosperity in the Indo-Pacific region, affirming their resolve to deepen the long-term strategic partnership between India and Indonesia.
