The four-time Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh, Shivraj Singh Chouhan, took his oath as a Union Minister in Prime Minister Modi’s cabinet in 2024 for the first time.
Since November 2005, Chouhan has served as the Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh. He was born in 1959 in Jait village, Sehore, Madhya Pradesh. The son of Prem Singh Chouhan and Sundar Bai Chouhan, he has been closely linked with the RSS and the BJP's student organizations. At the age of 13, he joined the Rashtriya Swayamsewak Sangh in 1972 and is known for his strong ties with its senior leaders. He served as a Convenor, General Secretary, and was a member of the National Executive for ABVP. He also held positions in the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha and was its president in 1988.
From 2000 to 2003, Chouhan was the National President of the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha. During this time, he was also the President of the House Committee (Lok Sabha) and the National Secretary of the BJP.
From 2000 to 2004, he was part of the Consultative Committee of the Ministry of Communications.
Chouhan was elected to the 14th Lok Sabha from Vidisha for the fifth time. In 2004, he joined the Joint Committee on Agriculture, the Offices of Profit, and took on various roles including National General Secretary of the BJP, Secretary of the BJP Parliamentary Board, Secretary of the Central Election Committee, and Chairman of the Housing Committee of Lok Sabha.
He is notably recognized for his initiatives aimed at combating female foeticide in the state since 2006.
Chouhan has been elected to Parliament five times in 1991, 1996, 1998, 1999, and 2004. He re-entered the 14th Lok Sabha in 2004 with a significant margin of over 260,000 votes. His roles included being a member of the Committee on Agriculture, the Joint Committee on Offices of Profit, and serving as the National General Secretary of the BJP, among others.
