New Delhi, March 16 (NationPress) Prime Minister Narendra Modi engaged in an extensive dialogue with American podcaster Lex Fridman, offering insights into his decision-making methodology and the principles he utilizes to reach conclusions.
PM Modi emphasized that he has a multitude of information channels that are highly active, which often leaves his team feeling 'overwhelmed'. He also mentioned that he enjoys playing devil’s advocate when presented with conflicting information, as this approach enables him to scrutinize issues from various perspectives.
The discussion about PM Modi's principles for decision-making, especially in challenging situations, came after Lex Fridman acknowledged his decisiveness and inquired how the Prime Minister navigates high-stakes decisions when clear precedents are lacking.
PM Modi shared that his extensive travels across the nation, his eagerness to learn from every scenario, and his ability to make decisions without any preconceived notions assist him in making choices effortlessly.
"I might be the only politician in India who has stayed overnight in about 85 to 90 percent of the districts before assuming my current role. I traveled extensively and gained invaluable insights from those experiences," he stated.
He further explained: "From a governance angle, I carry no sort of baggage that might impede my judgment. I prioritize a straightforward principle: my country first. I consistently question whether my actions could harm my nation in any way."
PM Modi also mentioned that he doesn’t depend on a single viewpoint; rather, he prefers gathering insights from diverse sources.
“I maintain strong connections within my administration. My officials are well aware that the number of my information channels is vast and active, which often overwhelms them. Consequently, I receive a plethora of insights from various sources. Therefore, when someone briefs me, it’s far from my sole source of information; I always possess additional perspectives,” PM Modi noted.
He also shared that when he encounters unfamiliar topics, he adopts a learner's mindset.
“Could you clarify this? How does it function? What follows next? Whenever I receive contrasting information, I intentionally play devil’s advocate and pose challenging inquiries. I meticulously analyze the issue from diverse angles, aiming for a comprehensive evaluation that reveals valuable insights,” he remarked.
PM Modi conveyed to the US-based podcaster that he is adept at making decisions swiftly, even in uncertain circumstances.
“I had Nobel Prize winners advising me with numerous economic examples from around the globe. Esteemed economists continually inundated me with suggestions. Political parties relentlessly pressured me to allocate vast sums of money, but I focused on what was best for the country, considering its unique context,” he explained.
“Everyone urged me to deplete the treasury, print more currency, and inject money into the economy. However, I concluded that this was not the correct economic strategy. Instead, after thoroughly considering expert opinions and integrating their advice with my country’s situation and my own experiences, I formulated a system that functioned effectively. Consequently, while the entire world faced severe inflation post-Covid, India remained unaffected,” he added.
