New Delhi, Jan 18 (NationPress) Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday distributed property cards under the SVAMITVA (Survey of Villages and Mapping with Improvised Technology in Village Areas) scheme to property owners in more than 230 districts across 10 states and 2 Union Territories.

These states include Chhattisgarh, Gujarat, Himachal Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Mizoram, Odisha, Punjab, Rajasthan, and Uttar Pradesh, along with the two UTs - Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh.

While addressing the beneficiaries via video conference, PM Modi stated that this is a historic moment for the villages of India and the rural economy.

"The ownership scheme was launched 5 years ago to provide legal proof of ownership to villagers. Over the past 5 years, approximately 1.5 crore ownership cards have been distributed. Today, more than 65 lakh families are receiving these ownership cards under this initiative," PM Modi mentioned.

He expressed concern that earlier governments did not take substantial action in this regard, and the SVAMITVA yojana was initiated only after the BJP government assumed power in 2014.

"With property rights being established, the challenges faced by Gram Panchayats will be addressed, leading to their financial empowerment. This will also simplify claims in case of disasters," PM Modi elaborated, emphasizing the advantages of the scheme.

He noted that the SVAMITVA scheme has assigned a unique identity to land through Bhu-Aadhaar, with around 23 crore Bhu-Aadhaar numbers issued.

"In the last 7-8 years, almost 98 percent of land records have been digitized. Mahatma Gandhi once said, 'India lives in villages; the soul of India is in villages.' The genuine implementation of this idea has been realized over the past decade," the Prime Minister stated.

It is noteworthy that the pilot project of the SVAMITVA scheme was launched on April 24, 2020, with its national rollout occurring on April 24, 2021. Under this scheme, land parcels in rural inhabited areas across the country are surveyed utilizing drone technology.

The scheme also aids in property monetization and facilitates institutional credit through bank loans, reducing disputes related to property; enabling improved property assessment and taxation in rural areas, and assisting in comprehensive village-level planning.
