New Delhi, May 25 (NationPress) Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday renewed his call for citizens to embrace the upcoming International Yoga Day on June 21 and commended the Andhra Pradesh government's YogAndhra Abhiyan for its role in fostering a yoga culture.
During the 122nd episode of his monthly radio show, Mann Ki Baat, PM Modi remarked, "With less than a month to go for 'International Yoga Day', this event encourages those who have yet to engage in yoga to start now. Yoga can transform your lifestyle. Since the inception of 'Yoga Day' on June 21, 2015, interest in yoga has steadily increased."
He highlighted the surging global enthusiasm for yoga, stating, "This year, the excitement surrounding 'Yoga Day' is clearly visible worldwide. Numerous organizations are sharing their preparations. The inspiring images from previous years showcase a global commitment to yoga, with people forming Yoga Chains and Yoga Rings across different nations."
"Many photos depict families across four generations practicing yoga together, and numerous individuals are choosing iconic locations in their cities for their yoga sessions. Consider celebrating Yoga Day in a unique way this year," he encouraged.
Regarding Andhra Pradesh's YogAndhra Abhiyan, the Prime Minister remarked, "This initiative aims to cultivate a yoga culture throughout the state. The campaign is working to create a community of 10 lakh individuals practicing yoga. I am excited to participate in the 'Yoga Day' event in Visakhapatnam this year."
He expressed his delight at the youth's involvement in yoga, saying, "I am pleased to learn that our younger generation will perform yoga at significant cultural sites across the country. Many young people have committed to setting records and joining the Yoga Chain."
PM Modi also noted that the private and corporate sectors are adopting yoga culture in innovative manners. "Our corporations are stepping up too. Some have established dedicated spaces for yoga in their workplaces, while several startups have introduced 'office yoga hours'. Others are planning to visit villages to teach yoga. This rising awareness regarding health and fitness brings me great joy," he stated.
In addition to yoga, PM Modi addressed advancements in Ayurveda and traditional medicine. "Just yesterday, on May 24, an MoU was signed in the presence of the WHO Director General and my friend, Tulsi Bhai. This agreement marks the beginning of a dedicated module for traditional medicine under the International Classification of Health Interventions. This initiative aims to promote AYUSH globally in a scientific manner," he explained.
Furthermore, PM Modi mentioned the introduction of 'sugar boards' in several CBSE-affiliated schools to raise awareness about sugar consumption and promote healthy living. "You may have noticed blackboards in schools, but now, 'sugar boards' are also being installed. This innovative initiative by the CBSE aims to educate children about their sugar intake. By understanding their consumption, children are making healthier choices. This effort will have a positive impact and can foster healthy lifestyle habits from a young age. Many parents have praised this initiative, and I believe similar efforts should also be implemented in workplaces, canteens, and institutions. After all, health is everything. A fit India is the cornerstone of a strong India," PM Modi concluded.
