Washington, Feb 14 (NationPress) Prime Minister Narendra Modi emphasized that India and the US are engaged in a 'MEGA' partnership aimed at fostering prosperity.
During a joint press conference with President Donald Trump on Thursday, PM Modi connected India's vision for Viksit Bharat, which he described as 'Make India Great Again (MIGA)', with Trump's iconic 'Make America Great Again (MAGA)' phrase.
PM Modi asserted that the combined vision of 'MAGA' and 'MIGA' forms a 'MEGA' partnership that propels prosperity.
"The citizens of America are well acquainted with President Trump's MAGA motto - Make America Great Again. Similarly, the citizens of India are dedicated to preserving their heritage while advancing rapidly towards the objective of Viksit Bharat 2047. In American terms, this translates to Make India Great Again - MIGA. When India and America collaborate, this MAGA plus MIGA evolves into a 'mega partnership for prosperity', and it is this mega spirit that enhances the scale and scope of our ambitions," he stated.
The two leaders also set an ambitious target of reaching USD 500 billion in bilateral trade by 2030.
"Today, we have also established a goal to more than double our bilateral trade, aiming for USD 500 billion by 2030. Our teams will soon finalize a mutually advantageous trade agreement," PM Modi mentioned, adding that both nations are progressing towards joint development, production, and technology transfer.
"We will enhance oil and gas trade to bolster India's energy security. Investments in energy infrastructure will increase. In the nuclear energy domain, we discussed strengthening our cooperation, particularly regarding small modular reactors. The US plays a crucial role in boosting India's defense capabilities. In the upcoming days, new technology and equipment will enhance our capacity," he noted.
PM Modi later tweeted, "President Trump frequently speaks of MAGA. In India, we are striving for a Viksit Bharat, which corresponds to MIGA in the American context. Together, India and the USA share a MEGA partnership for prosperity!"
