New Delhi, Jan 23 (NationPress) As the nation commemorates ‘Parakram Diwas’ (day of valour) honoring the birth anniversary of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose, Prime Minister Narendra Modi spearheaded the nation in paying respects to one of the most legendary freedom fighters of India.

During this occasion, Netaji’s grandnephew Chittapriyo Bose shared insights about PM Modi’s connection with the family and their various discussions regarding the de-classification of significant files. In a video message, he recounted instances where PM Modi acknowledged Netaji's invaluable contributions.

He praised PM Modi for honoring Netaji's legacy through actions such as renaming Ross Island to ‘Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose Dweep’, erecting a magnificent statue at India Gate, establishing the INA Museum at Red Fort, and recognizing Netaji's birth anniversary as ‘Parakram Diwas’.

Chittapriyo Bose credited PM Modi for the long-overdue de-classification of files pertaining to Netaji’s mysterious disappearance, a matter that had been overlooked for decades post-Independence. He noted that this crucial initiative began promptly after PM Modi took office.

Reflecting on the initial meeting of the Netaji family with PM Modi, he shared, “My elder brother Supriyo Bose, a few cousins, and Professor Chitra Ghosh had an audience with PM Modi at Kolkata’s Raj Bhawan after he assumed the Prime Ministership in 2014. We aimed to urge him to initiate an inquiry into Netaji’s disappearance, especially after August 18, 1945. After listening to our concerns, he welcomed us to Delhi with additional family members.

“A delegation of 50 members visited PM’s office, which included 25 family members and 25 distinguished citizens from various fields. I represented my father Bijender Nath Bose, a notable freedom fighter and close associate of Netaji. We expressed our opinions on the de-classification of Netaji’s disappearance details,” he elaborated.

He mentioned that PM Modi instructed the then External Affairs Minister, the late Sushma Swaraj, to initiate the de-classification process, starting with a request to Russia.

Chittapriyo Bose further commended PM Modi for his unwavering dedication to honoring Netaji’s significant contributions to the nation.

He remarked that PM Modi was the one who proclaimed Netaji’s birth anniversary as Parakaram Divas, in recognition of his valor, sacrifice, and devotion to the country.

Additionally, he talked about the museum at the Red Fort, which reminisces about Netaji’s INA days.

“After the files were declassified, a dedicated wing in the National Archives was established for Netaji, unveiled in the presence of his family members,” he stated.

He also noted that their fourth meeting with PM Modi occurred on the occasion of Netaji’s 125th birth anniversary, celebrated grandly at Kolkata’s Victoria Memorial.

During this celebration, PM Modi engaged with Netaji’s family and also unveiled commemorative coins and stamps.
