Jabalpur/Ujjain, Jan 23 (NationPress) Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav stated on Friday that his administration will enforce strict measures against individuals attempting to disturb law and order in the state, following a clash between two communities in Tarana town of Ujjain district.
During a media interaction in Jabalpur, the Chief Minister emphasized that his government is recognized for its commitment to sushasan (good governance).
“Our administration is unwavering in promoting effective governance. Whenever there are flaws in the system, we adopt a decisive approach. We possess the capability to address anyone who tries to undermine the peace in our state,” he remarked.
According to reports, a conflict erupted on Thursday night when a group allegedly assaulted two individuals — one believed to be associated with a Hindu organization — over a minor dispute in Tarana. Some unidentified individuals reportedly attacked a member of the VHP along with his friend.
Tensions heightened on Friday as members of both communities reportedly threw stones at each other, prompting the police to respond swiftly by deploying heavy security.
Videos circulating on social media depicted the stone-pelting from both sides.
The Ujjain district administration responded by issuing prohibitory orders, and flag marches were conducted in Tarana.
Ujjain Superintendent of Police (SP) Pradeep Sharma confirmed that at least 20 individuals have been apprehended and are undergoing questioning. He mentioned that police vehicles are patrolling the area and urging the public to maintain order.
Additionally, the Ujjain district administration has enacted Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
“So far, 20 individuals have been identified and arrested. Meanwhile, police teams are engaging with representatives from both communities. Currently, the situation is stable, but security has been intensified to prevent any further escalation,” Sharma noted.
Police officials added that some individuals are attempting to incite panic through rumors. Police teams are actively monitoring the situation and reviewing CCTV footage to identify those involved in the clashes.
“Police teams are making announcements through loudspeakers in neighborhoods and urging residents not to heed rumors. Our units are prepared to tackle the challenges. Traffic in affected areas has resumed,” he stated.
It is noteworthy that Tarana, where the clash occurred, is located in Ujjain, the home district of Chief Minister Mohan Yadav, who also oversees the home portfolio. Tarana is one of the Assembly constituencies in the district, represented by Congress MLA Mahesh Parmar.
