Indore, Oct 25 (NationPress) Aqeel Khan, who has been taken into custody in relation to the alleged molestation of two female Australian cricketers in Indore, has a history of criminal activity, as revealed by Indore's Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Rajesh Dandotiya.
In a statement to IANS, Dandotiya noted that the accused, a resident of Azad Nagar in Indore, has been linked to several criminal cases and has previously served time in jail. However, details regarding the specific charges and duration of his imprisonment remain unclear.
"The suspect has been remanded to jail following extensive police interrogations. During the investigation, it was uncovered that he had faced multiple criminal charges registered at various police stations in Indore," he added.
The alert came from Danny Simmons, the security manager for the Australian cricket team, who promptly notified local police. Quick teamwork between Simmons and the local authorities facilitated a swift investigation, according to the police official.
"We received a report from the Australian cricket team’s security manager. After lodging an FIR at the MIG police station on Thursday, police teams conducted thorough searches. After a six-hour operation, the suspect was identified and arrested," he explained.
Additionally, an eyewitness who recorded the motorcycle's license plate played a vital role in identifying the suspect, leading to the arrest of Khan.
According to police reports, the incident transpired near Khajrana Road. The suspect, identified as Aqeel Khan, allegedly followed two players on his motorcycle, inappropriately touched one of them, and then fled the scene.
Meanwhile, the Madhya Pradesh Cricket Association has expressed deep concern regarding the unfortunate molestation incident involving the two Australian female cricketers in Indore.
"I am profoundly distressed, shocked, and saddened by the tragic incident involving two players from the Australian women's cricket team in Indore. No woman should endure such inappropriate behavior. Our heartfelt sympathies go out to the affected players," stated Mahanaaryaman Scindia, president of the Madhya Pradesh Cricket Association, on X.
