In recent news, NITI Aayog officially recognized Mizoram as the Ginger Capital of India, acknowledging the state’s exceptional output of high-quality ginger and its swift growth in ginger production in recent years. The Mizoram government previously expressed appreciation to NITI Aayog for this designation.
Chief Minister Lalduhoma chaired a meeting last week with members of the Mizoram Agricultural Marketing Board (MAMB), where the panel conveyed its appreciation to NITI Aayog for the ‘Ginger Capital of India’ title.
The meeting evaluated ongoing projects and reviewed reports on activities undertaken this year, including the high-level Stakeholders’ Consultation for Mizoram Ginger Produce recently held in New Delhi.
According to a comprehensive annual report from MAMB, over 3.38 crore kg of ginger has been procured this year, with the entire support price of Rs 137.72 crore being fully distributed.
The official noted that MAMB is gearing up for a ‘Ginger Buyer-Seller Meet’, expecting participation from buyers across India. This event aims to establish new trade agreements in anticipation of the upcoming ginger harvest.
Additionally, the new ginger processing unit at Sairang is set to be inaugurated on January 12 next year.
